Ranil writes to CoD and IGP

(January 26, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) "With the entry of the Amy to Mullaitivu , the armed Forces have established full control of the Vanni area. This is due to the courageous and selfless dedication by all ranks of the Armed Forces under immense difficulties and personal danger to life and limb," the leader of the United National Party and opposition , Ranil Wickramasingha said in a letter to Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera, Chief of Defence staff in Colombo.

According to the letter, "Today, through your commitment and sacrifice you have further strengthened the territorial integrity of our country. We will not forget that you in the Armed Forces made it possible. Therefore , kindly convey to the Heads and all ranks of the armed Forces- Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force the heartfelt gratitude of our people."

"What is important now is that all of us ensure that the freedoms which Democracy guarantees will have the opportunity to grow and flourish."

Meanwhile his letter to Inspector General of Police has point out,"The Sri Lanka Police and the Special Task Force made a vital contribution to the operation to gain control of the Vanni area . The Police maintained public order and prevented acts of terrorism . Thereby, you made the cities and villages safe. The Special task Force played a leading role in stabilizing law and order in the East. Through your commitment and sacrifice you have helped to strengthen the territorial integrity of our country."

According to the latter, "Therefore, kindly convey to all ranks of the Sri Lanka Police and the Special Task Force the heartfelt gratitude of our people."
