Indian PM discharged from AIIMS, to resume work in 4 weeks

(February 01,New Delhi, Sri Lanka Guardian) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was discharged from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi on Sunday morning at about 0745 hrs IST.

The 76-year-old Singh, who is also a diabetic, has been advised to slowly step up his levels of physical activity. He will be able to resume work in about four weeks.

In fact physical activity is highly recommended after the surgery. Doctors also say that travel is not going to be an issue.

The Prime Minister had undergone coronary heart bypass surgery on January 24 at the hospital.

The complex surgery was conducted by a team of 11 doctors from the Asian Heart Institute (AHI) and AIIMS led by Dr Ramakant Panda. After the surgery Manmohan Singh was kept in the Intensive Care Unit and shifted to a special room on January 28.

He was also given physiotherapy sessions after he was moved out of the ICU.

But keeping his diabetes in mind, the Prime Minister will have to be careful about his diet and exercise and has been asked to avoid stress.
