Foreign Ministry to recruit a new batch of Foreign Service Officers

(January 24, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will soon recruit a new intake of 25 officers to Grade III of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in order to meet the human resource requirement of the Ministry and its overseas Missions. Upon a request made by Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama the Public Service Commission had given approval to increase the number of officers to be recruited from 15 to 25. The Interview Board has already been appointed by the Public Service Commission to conduct the interviews to select successful candidates from among those who have been successful at the Open Competitive examination, conducted in early 2008, by the Department of Examinations

In 2007, the Ministry recruited a batch of 10 to the Sri Lanka Foreign Service who are currently deployed in various Divisions in the Ministry. With this latest recruitment, the SLFS cadre has been increased by 35 officers since 2007, which marks a 20% of overall increase in the cadre.

Since the assumption of duties as Foreign Minister, Minister Bogollagama has taken a special interest to enhance the professionalism of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service (SLFS) in order to meet the demands and challenges of the present day international relations, and to maintain its high standards of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service. - Sri Lanka Guardian
