(January 15, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) Protesters are holding demonstrations against the Sri Lanka government to condemn its anti-media campaign. Tamil Journalist Association is holding a demonstration in front of British Prime Minister’s residence in Downing Street today (15/1) and large numbers of Tamils are expected to participate in the protest. The demonstration will be attended by many UK based media and human rights groups and will be held from 1.00pm.
A demonstration organised by an independent Tamil group on 14th January in front of Downing Street has been cancelled and organisers have decided lend support to other two demonstrations.
The Sri Lanka Democratic Forum has panned a demonstration in front of the Sri Lanka High Commission on 16 January and many organisations are said have extended their support. The demonstration will be held at High Park Gardens where the High Commission is located between 4.30 to 6.30pm.
The demonstrations are organised to condemn the murder of Sunday Leader editor Lasantha Wickramatunga and the violent attack on the Maharajah Televisions (MTV) by the suspected elite squad of the defence establishment of Sri Lanka. - Sri Lanka Guardian
