(December 15, Toronto, Sri Lanka Guardian) Alaipayude Kanna by Oothukaadu Venkata Subbaiyar is an evergreen semi-classic in the Carnatic music tradition. It is rendered with deep-seated emotions amidst a typical pastoral background to Lord Krishna harmonizing with the gentle waves of our inner feelings. Apart from countless vocal and instrumental renderings, several dances have been choreographed to express the message of this composition.
One could rate this as an ideal music of the morning to generate lovely feelings from within our minds and spirit and inspire us to appreciate everything that is lovely and so beautiful in our environment. In this process we will also appreciate what God has provided us and how we have, instead of allowing His generous gifts to humanity to enrich us, we have tended to be destructive of them bent on materialistic self-centred greed.
These blessings are for sharing and also to ensure their preservation for our generations to come. Their survival depends on how we take care of our environment. In the Hindu tradition, Lord Krishna is worshipped as the deity of the pastures where beauty and productiveness from such resources as land, fields, forests, lakes and rivers of all that is healthy and also of spiritual inspiration are harmonized as a gift to humanity. - Sri Lanka Guardian
