"Govt.’s education mess up has wrought greater devastation on the Nation"

(December 30, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Addressing a news conference at the UNP Leader’s office at Cambridge place, yesterday (29 Dec) , UNP M.P. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated that this Govt. has wrought more destruction on the nation than even the ethnic war because of its abysmal muddling up of the education sector. Never had Sri Lanka ‘s education fallen to this deepest depth of chaos and confusion, he regretted.

Owing to the disastrous policies and the Govt. ‘s absolute failure to address the education sector problems , the entire education of the future generation is ruined and their parents have suffered mental shocks without school admissions, proper conduct of exams, release of text books and setting of question papers.

The Govt. is only obsessed with politicization of the education sector rather than solving the urgent problems of the students, teachers, principals and schools. If the Govt. does not take steps to punish all those who were involved in the recent Mathematics question paper muddle , the UNP will take to the streets and stage demonstrations to safeguard the children’s educational rights , he emphasized. - Sri Lanka Guardian
