Education misery and Ministry muddle snowball

(December 17, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) While it is the duty of a Govt. to ensure that the best services are provided to children’s education on which the entire country’s future depends; in Sri Lanka however , it is the education services which has allegedly been most bungled by the Ministry and the authorities. Hardly a day passes without a news splash about the education sector mishaps and bungles.

From School admissions, Principal appointments, teachers’ salaries and examinations to answer script corrections are in the worst state of chaos and crises. To compound these problems is another ; the recent G.C.E O/L mathematics question paper which has been set is not according to the students’ standards . In other words those who set the question paper apparently are themselves disoriented. Consequently , there is a public outcry demanding its. cancellation.

UNP M.P. Akila Kariyawasam urged the Govt. to cancel the paper. The UNP also has demanded the resignation of the Minister Premachandra before ruining the education sector further owing to his inefficiency and monumental blunders. - Sri Lanka Guardian
