SPUR Congratulates President Obama

(November 09, Melbourne, Sri Lanka Guardian) We, the members of the Society for Peace, Unity and Human Rights for Sri Lanka, congratulate you on your very significant victory tonight. It is indeed an historic victory and shows that the American people have come of age, Jeanne Jayasinghe the President of Society for Peace, Unity and Human Rights for Sri Lanka Inc (SPUR) said in letter to newly elected Prsenet of Unidet Stae of America Mr. Barack Obama.

According to the letter, “We hope that your policy will assist the Government of Sri Lanka to defeat the LTTE who have for the past three decades been trying to tear down the world of innocent Sri Lankans through barbaric acts of terrorism and genocide.”

We, the members of the Society for Peace, Unity and Human Rights for Sri Lanka, congratulate you on your very significant victory tonight. It is indeed an historic victory and shows that the American people have come of age. They have voted, not on such narrow platforms as race, sex, colour or creed, instead they have looked at the issues facing the world today and based on fact, they have voted for the person they know will handle the situation best.

“To those who will tear down the world, we will defeat you.
To those who want peace and harmony, we will support you….
That’s the true genius of America.”

These words of yours give us hope that your foreign policy towards Sri Lanka and the war being conducted against the ruthless terrorist group – the LTTE – will be a positive one and that you will not be taken in by the distortions and half truths of the supporters of this terrorist organisation.

Just as the American people who voted for you looked at the facts of the issues facing them, we hope you too will study the true facts of the events taking place when formulating your policy on Sri Lanka.

We hope that your policy will assist the Government of Sri Lanka to defeat the LTTE who have for the past three decades been trying to tear down the world of innocent Sri Lankans through barbaric acts of terrorism and genocide.
