(November 22, Karachi, Sri Lanka Guardian) The South Asia Photo-journalist Association (SAPA) was recently formed to address the pressing needs of photo-journalists in the region. The main objectives of SAPA are to foster cooperation among photo-journalists in the region to exchange professional tips and ideas and to create a climate where they can carry out their professional tasks without fear and intimidation.
The inaugural meeting of SAPA was held in Karachi, Pakistan on the side lines of the Asian Photo-journalism symposium with participants from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Japan.
The Asian Photo-journalism symposium was organised by Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association and was held on November 15 and 16. At the end of the conference an exhibition of photographs from the participants was also held.

At the end of the symposium the participants unanimously agreed to form SAPA following proposals by the president of the Bangladeshi Photo-journalist Association M. Mohideen - Sri Lanka Guardian
