(November 14, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) We of the "Manel Mal movement feel that it is the duty of all citizens of this country, especially the Sinhala majority, to look after the welfare of the unfortunate internally displaced people from the North at this moment. These IDP’s escaping from the tyranny of Prabhakaran need our help and protection. We must show that we are prepared to look after them to the best of our ability , the Manel Mal movement said in a press statement.
“In order to activate this noble deed the Manel Mal Movement headed by Mr S.L Gunasekera. in collaboration with the Patriotic National Movement has planned to organise a "Brother hood Train" to travel from Matara to Medawachchiya .”
According to the Statement, “this is scheduled for the last week of November. This train stopping at 20 stations from Matara to Medawachchiya will collect and carry the necessary provisions -food clothing etc needed by the IDP. A well worked out plan has been initiated to get the entire population of these areas to participate in this venture. “
“We see this not only as a means of providing material benefit to the IDP; but also as a way of expressing our deep concern for our brethren in the North .This will also help to counter the false propaganda by the western powers against Sri Lankan state We are morally and ethically bound to perform this task.”
