Hartal in Kalmunai after deaths of five youth

(November 03, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) A hartal has been launched in Kalmunai after the killing of five youth at a guest house in the area, police said.

The death toll increased to five today after one person admitted at the Kalmunai hospital succumbed to his injuries. Four persons were killed instantly in the shooting incident in Kurumbavadi, in Kalmunai Sunday night, Police said.

The shooting is reported to have taken place in a guest house close to the beach.

The army on Monday said unidentified gunman on a motorbike has intruded a guest house in the at about 7.45 p.m. and strayed bullets killing four men on the spot and injuring another.

“ The motive behind the killing and identity of the perpetrators is yet to be traced”, the army said.

Four of the victims have been identified as Jayasekar Nisanthan, 20, Kadiravadively Rajakurendran, 26, Somasundaram Kartik, 21 and Muttupillai Sri Sudaharan, 28. - Sri Lanka Guardian
