(November 11, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) The CPI today requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to use his good offices to impress upon the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to stop its offensive in the northern parts of the island republic.
D Pandiyan, Tamil Nadu CPI secretary in a letter to Singh, said with the LTTE seeking a ceasefire, Sri Lankan government should be persuaded to reciprocate positively for ending the war.
He said Norwegian brokered ceasefire in 2002 had been unilaterally abrogated by the Sri Lankan government in February 2008.
The Lankan government aggravated the situation by resorting to aerial bombing, uprooting lakhs of innocent families from their habitats and rendering them homeless, he said in the letter.
'Delaying and dodging to resolve the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka will lead to fissiparous tendencies to grow in various parts of India.
The conflict should be resolved amicably or else the negative impact on India will have a long term repercussions', he said. - Sri Lanka Guardian
