"The Budget has reflects the Govt.’s selfish policies"

(November 24, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian)
Addressing the media today ( 24 Nov) , Gayantha Karunathileke UNP MP , said that the President and the Govt. are only concerned with looking for ways and means to cheat on the people rather than conferring benefits on them for which they were elected.

The President and the Govt. have right along been promising to pass the benefit of world oil price reductions to the consumers . Even in the last budget , the President said, he would pass the benefit of any world oil price reduction coming into effect immediately after the budget to the consumers . But, there has been a further reduction in the price to US $ 40.00 in the world market ,yet, the Govt. has not passed the benefit of the price reduction to the people as promised, he added.

The Budget too reflects the Govt.’s selfish policies aimed at achieving the dastardly aims of the Ministers and the Govt. at the expense of the people’ s welfare. While no benefits have been designed to help the masses including he Samurdhi recipients , the working class and the private sector employees, the budget has increased budget allocations for the President’s expenditure . While the erstwhile most viable profitable Tea, rubber, coconut and Garment Industry are collapsing and the Govt. is doing nothing about it , for the Mihinair which is a proven white elephant and incurred a loss of Rs. 7000 million , the Govt. has allocated Rs. 6000 million in the budget to revive it. It has however thought it fit to cut back on the expenditure of 26 important Ministries which can serve the people, he regretted.
