World Children´s Day messages


(October 01, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) "In every country, the children constitute its posterity. Any effort to improve their lot will in turn help make the country´s future more meaningful," says President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He is issuing a message to mark World Children´s Day, with this year´s theme being "Let us listen to the children and make the world more beautiful."

The statement said, "To guarantee a better future for our children, our government has accomplished many a task which no other government has ever attempted."

"Parents, teachers and adults owe a greater responsibility to make their lives more secure. It is therefore incumbent on them to listen to the child and understand him so that the world of the children as well as the future world would be peaceful and beautiful," President Rajapaksa said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickremanayake said in his message to mark World Children´s Day, "We in Sri Lanka as a nation, have always given and will continue to give special attention to the needs of children whether special days are designated or not for the child."

"Future belongs to children and we adults are their immediate world Children always seek attention and guidance as they need someone to share their thoughts, aspirations and dreams.

"We have to accept the position that it is our absolute responsibility to guarantee a better future for the child. We have to listen to children and create a better environment and future for them.

"Certainly if we pay special attention to the needs of the child a better and more hopeful future will dawn for children. Children are a precious gift to parents," the PM said.
