(October 15, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) MDMK general secretary Vaiko today demanded the Tamilnadu government to withdraw its support to the Centre if it failed to pressurise the Sri Lankan government to stop the war on Tamils in the island nation.
In a statement issued here, Vaiko urged the Union Ministers belonging to Tamilnadu to quit if the Centre does not get into the act and demanded that India ought to sever all ties with the Lankan government.
‘The Sri Lankan army continued to kill the Tamils and the Indian government has been backing it’, Vaiko said, adding that in the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s letter sent to him had stated that India was providing military support to protect the integrity of Sri Lanka.
Hence the Indian government ought to terminate all ties especially military assistance. He also demanded it to get back the radar facilities provided to Sri Lanka.
Lamenting that the Lankan government has repealed the ceasefire unilaterally, Vaiko said that it should declare ceasefire again to stop the atrocities against the Tamils.
He further wanted the Norway peace talks committee to be set up again and also to open a UN office at Colombo.
Clarifying his party’s stand on being the part of the Central government, Vaiko said that the two MDMK MPs quitting from the cabinet was not a matter for it would be done for the sake of the Lankan Tamils.
It may be noted that Vaiko had kept off the all-party meeting convened yesterday by Tamilnadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on the Lankan issue. - Sri Lanka Guardian
