Pillaiyan and Karuna must be sent to a rehabilitation centre after they are forced to hand over their posts to respectable people.

- [October 26, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian] Anger is on the tracks in the politics of the East – the place newly liberated from terrorism, as the Government puts it. But the shadow of ghost killers is already stalking the East, targeting both security force officers and civilians. Even more ransom demands and other inhumane things have been happening regularly there. People are suffering. All projects are firmly under the control of the TMVP; none can challenge this as the TMVP still wield their weapons despite being in power as a political party.
Now we can see another fire raging within the TMVP, the so called party that entered the democratic political stream leaving behind its terrorist past. It is poignant that this instability is in the East, a very sensitive place compared to other places in Sri Lanka because all ethnic communities are living there in roughly equal numbers.
The TMVP have run the area politics and other development works from the time they won the recent Local Government elections. But not many Sinhalese or Muslims have been put in government service there. However, a number of Tamil recruitments to the Local Government service have been effected by the TMVP gang without proper interviews. The East has become the private property of the TMVP.
Whatever the TMVP may be doing on a democratic path to better things for their people is good and no one can quarrel with it. But the problem is that the party still runs the area like a terrorist group. The worst thing is that they have received Security Forces protection to do those bad things against the people. And the TMVP show no dignity or respect to the Security Forces in the area who face discriminatory acts by this gang time and again. Meanwhile the blind government is depending on and believing the TMVP's false promises over eastern developments and the security status there. We sometimes wonder if all this is deliberate as part of the government’s plan to build up a powerful intelligence team in the East for watching minorities using these goons.
However as heads of rival outfits within the TMVP, both Karuna and Pillaiyan are fighting like dogs that are infected with the rabies virus. This rabid hatred will destroy again the youth in the East and even more terrorism will overtake the East unless something is done soon. The people must take charge and oust these goons if they have any rights or power to do it. But it is unfortunate that there is no more democracy in the East, but only two goons polishing their weapons against their own colleagues.
This is hypocritical politics with the sole aim of gaining power. Their mutual wrath-cum-hatred will destroy once again the East’s hard won credibility and the people's peace and harmony. Now is the time to take firm action against these goons. The best is if they can be sent to a rehabilitation centre to learn how to live as human in the world; it would be better for the people in the East. After years of fighting, Karuna and Pillaiyan no longer know the difference between humans and animals.
Pillaiyan and Karuna both have bad history behind them, even black history over their inhumane treatment of people. The difference between the two is that Karuna was a popular and polished master of the art of killing as LTTE commander. Pillaiyan on the other hand became notorious as a prisoner under the LTTE’s Pottu Amman gang for more than one year and underwent another three years’ further punishment at a farm as labourer in the Wanni after he killed an innocent person in the East as an LTTE cadre.
Now it is passed four years since the TMVP broke away from the LTTE. But their terrorist mentality has not yet changed whatever “milk” the Government has given to them. Now the time has come to control both of these goons, Pillaiyan and Karuna, in a democratic way. Do not forget that rabid animals must be controlled if the people are to walk the streets freely. If they cannot be controlled, the people will suffer immensely. What is going on the East at present is like a ticking time bomb. - Sri Lanka Guardian
