(October 16, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Former Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday described as a ‘drama’ the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s call asking the MPs from Tamilnadu to quit if the Centre did not intervene within a fortnight into the Sri Lankan army’s ongoing offensive in the Tamil- speaking areas of that country.
The resolution, adopted in the all- party meeting convened by Karunanidhi, was only a ‘drama enacted by him’, Jayalalithaa said in a statement here .
She said that instead of asking the MPs to quit, the DMK should have asked his Ministers in the Union Ministry to resign and announced withdrawal of support to Manmohan Singh government ‘which would have been more effective.’
The leader of Opposition in the State Assembly said if one went through the resolution, it looked like Karunanidhi was supporting the LTTE.
‘Indian government does not have powers to stop the civil war in Sri Lanka. If we interfere in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka, it will open the floodgates for other countries to interfere in Indian affairs, which will endanger the sovereignty of the country. I am surprised that even this basic fact is not known for a person, who had been the Chief Minister for five terms’, she said.
