MihinAir drains away Rs. 3 billion of people’s fund -UNP

(October 02, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The main Opposition, the UNP is to file a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court (SC) immediately, to counter the dastardly moves of the Govt. to revive MihinAir , the budget Airliner which was at the center of a financial scandal wasting Rs. 3000 million of people’s money. The MihinAir crashed on the rocks sometime ago , due to alleged corruption and abysmal mismanagement .

It is learnt that the Govt. for inscrutable reasons is flogging a dead horse by trying to resume MihinAir operations injecting more public funds .It is UNP’s contention that it is understandable if Govt. is reviving a State Institution which could generate profits. But, MihinAir has been a misery to the people wasting public funds, though a few at the top echelons may have enjoyed joy rides, it added

Besides, the defunct MihinAir owes Rs. 700 million to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation alone. Whose money is the Govt. playing ducks and drakes with? UNP front liner Ravi Karunanayake asked.
