(October 30, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka (CPSL) reviewed the current political situation in the context of the on-going military operations in the North, the continuing crisis of the international financial system and the impending threats to withdraw the G.S.P + concessions, says in a statement issued by DEW Gunasekara, General Secretary, Communist party of Sri Lanka.
The LTTE through its own intransigence and belligerence has been isolated from the Tamil people and militarily paralysed.
The LTTE by resorting to terrorism has only brought disaster to the Tamil people. It has caused death and destruction to all sections of the Sri Lankan society.
They must blame themselves and no one else for the plight that they are placed in.
The LTTE in these circumstances as a last resort had no option but to seek support from their allies in the Tamil Nadu, namely PMK and MDMK and appalling them to whip up Tamil nationalist sentiments with the objective of straining relations between Sri Lanka and India.
The extremist forces in the South through their own anti-Indian phobia were objectively contributing to this strategy of the LTTE.
The Tamil people in the North have historical, linguistic, cultural and religious links with the Tamil people in Tamil Nadu and it is natural that they tend to express their concerns on developments in Sri Lanka and in particular with the plight of the Tamil civilian population.
However, the extremists in Tamil Nadu attempt to exploit these concerns for their narrow political ends. The Communist Party totally rejects the charges of genocide against the Sri Lankan Government which are based either on imaginations or manufactured stories disseminated through various Websites.
This mischievous propaganda is mainly targeted at the voters of Tamil Nadu, in preparation for the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
The Communist Party of Sri Lanka warns the people of Sri Lanka against anti-Indian propaganda leashed out by the extremist and chauvinist forces in the South. This only strengthens the propaganda machinery of the LTTE.
The CPSL which is in constant contact with the two Communist Parties (CPI and CPI (Marxist) has apprised them of the ground - realities of the current Sri Lankan situation. They are totally opposed to terrorism and are only concerned with the plight of displaced civilian people and the need for a speedy political solution.
In the context of the current international and domestic developments, the CPSL - Re-iterates the urgent need for protecting the civilian population in the North and providing them with all possible humanitarian assistance.
The CPSL appreciates the measures already taken by the Government in this regard, Appeals to the people of Sri Lanka not to fall prey to the machinations of the extremist forces both in the North and the South, calls upon the Government to proceed with determination in the search for a lasting political solution, Endorses and appreciates the Government's decision not to yield to the demands of the European Union which threatens to withdraw the concessions on the G.S.P. +.
It calls upon the Government to go ahead with alternative measures in order to safeguard the country's national interests,
The CPSL, has been consistently warning the people of the potential dangers of the neo-liberal economic policies. The on-going crisis of the international finance system is nothing but the crisis of neo-liberalism, intensified by the disastrous US foreign and defence policies.
It calls upon the Government to apprise the people of the political nature of this crisis and take all possible measures to protect them from its fall-outs and the CPSL, appreciates the courage and patience evinced by the Government of Sri Lanka in its efforts to defuse the growing tension in Tamil Nadu and its clever move to frustrate the machinations of the extremist forces through diplomatic channels.- Sri Lanka Guardian
