“The issue in respect of Lt General Sarath Fonseka is whether in his statement there was, in his view, Sri Lanka is a land of the Sinhalese primarily. May be this was badly reported. However, we feel Lt General Sarath Fonseka should publicly state his reactions to it.”

- [October 06, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardain] Sri Lanka Guardian while appreciating the reactions to the interview of the Lt General Sarath Fonseka that appeared in the National Post of Canada from so many quarters, requests kindly that the issue of racism is not raised in whatever features or letters sent to us.
Readers are requested to be mindful of racial harmony in Sri Lanka and to honour Sri Lanka as the land of the Sri Lankans and they are a rich community of Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Malays and Burghers and equally Buddhists, Hindus, Christians and those of the Islamic faith and also they are people of the urban and rural districts and inheritors of a rich cultural and historical legacy.
The issue in respect of Lt General Sarath Fonseka is whether in his statement there was, in his view, Sri Lanka is a land of the Sinhalese primarily. May be this was badly reported. However, we feel Lt General Sarath Fonseka should publicly state his reactions to it.
We appreciate those writers who have taken only that stand but have otherwise testified to the integrity of this officer and needs of the country to bring terrorism to an end. This officer has the skill, capability and commitment to help Sri Lanka at this hour. - Sri Lanka Guardian
