Govt. swimming in a sea of lies - Jayalath Jayawardena

(October 01, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena , UNP M.P. addressing the media yesterday , said the Govt. is preoccupied not with the development of the country or providing relief to the people, but with hounding out the media, the opposition and those speaking against it, and either assaulting them or damaging their property.

Since this Govt.’ advent everything that stands for democracy, discipline and lawfulness are being destroyed, while lawlessness, hooliganism and corruption are being exalted.

Referring to the recent grenade attack on the residence of attorney at law, Weliamuna, a human rights Lawyer who had appeared against the Govt. in many cases, stated that this is a clear indication of the lethal direction in which this Govt. is traveling. Now, even Lawyers are not immune from Govt. vendetta, he exclaimed.

Every important Ministry is plagued either by inefficiency, fraud or corruption, he lamented. The education Ministry is unable to extricate itself from its abysmal bungles. The Health Ministry is forever in the news for its inefficiency, neglect and corruption. He cited the latest fraud in blood transfusion kits. The Finance Ministry too is unable to exercise control over its own activities; everything has gone out of hand – the Sakvithi fraud is an illustration, he exhorted.
