"Govt. created every circumstance for Janaka’s killing"

(October 08, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Lakshman Kiriella , UNP M.P.addressing a media briefing today (8 Oct), said , the Govt. must be held fully responsible for the tragic death of Major General Janaka Perera . Referring to a news item in the Media sometime ago where Kiriella had asked whether the Govt. is waiting until Janaka Perera is killed by denying him security. Now, after his death it is evident that the Govt. waited just for that tragedy.

He said, if the Govt. has given him adequate security which he deserved as a war hero who destroyed the backbone of the terrorists during his time, and therefore under consistent threat from them, he would not have met with this fate. Even after the Govt.’s intelligence unit openly stated that Janaka was under grave threat to his life, the Defence Secretary lied to the Courts by an affidavit that he had no grave threats. Ultimately, the security, if any he received was only after he went to Courts, he lamented. But, now the Govt. says, according to the Dinamina newspaper reports, there had been 12 assassination attempts on him. The Defence Secretary must therefore be charged for perjury and for presenting a false affidavit to Court, he added.

This is a Govt. which is now infamously famous for secret pacts with the terrorist Organisations. In the run up to the last Presidential elections it tied up with the LTTE on an alleged massive multimillion rupee secret deal which is before the Bribery and corruption Commission for investigation. Now, its pacts with the TMVP (the LTTE breakaway) has compelled it to appoint Pillayan as Chief Minister and Karuna as a Parliamentary M.P.

The Govt. which will stoop to anything betraying even the country if it will only serve its selfish political expediency, is putting villains on the pedestal, but treating war heroes as villains in its political villainy. It forgot that, but for Army commanders like Janaka Perera , the current victories, if any , as claimed by the Govt. against the LTTE could not have been won. It is the efforts of Army Commanders like Janaka Perera who wrested the initiative effectively from the LTTE during their time that broke the backbone of the LTTE. The govt. is only reaping the fruits of their labors now.

The Govt. stubbornly refused the security what Janaka Perera asked, because he was a UNPer . This clearly shows that the Govt. will even sacrifice the lives of patriots and expunge from record their services, only to associate with traitors and terrorists, if, only its dastardly political goals can be achieved at the expense of the people and country.
