Do not give in to pressure from India! - JVP Political Bureau

(October 18, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Continue the fight against separatist terrorism until victory, and safeguard the lives and well-being of the Tamil people! It has been reported that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. M. Karunanidhi is telling the Indian Government to put pressure on Sri Lankan government to halt the military offensive launched against separatist terrorist. It has also been reported that despite Mr. Karunanidhi having organized a conference of all political parties in Tamil Nadu on the 14th October 2008 to gain support, that it was a failure. Many powerful political parties in Tamil Nadu abstained from the all-party conference, Somawansa Amarasinghe a Leader of the JVP, said in a statement.

According to the Statement, “nevertheless, Mr. Karunanidhi has declared that the parties which attended the all-party conference will withdraw their decisive support pledged to the government of Dr. Man Mohan Singh, unless the Indian government compels the Sri Lankan government to come to a cease-fire agreement with the Tiger Organization within two weeks Under these circumstances, the Indian government's demand that the Sri Lankan government and the President halt military operations against the Tiger Organization, are expected to be much more forceful.”

“Since President Rajapakse and his government has failed to stand up to the Indian pressure, we urge all people to pressure the government and President to secure the territorial sovereignty and dignity of Sri Lanka. The Delhi and Tamil Nadu political leaders' outcry is not really about Sri Lankan Tamil people’s rights but for their own political gains. On one hand Tamil Nadu leaders are vocal about Sri Lankan Tamil community due to the forthcoming State elections.”

“On the other hand, the New Delhi political leaders are also vocal about the Sri Lankan Tamil community in order to strengthen the Indian policy of economic expansionism in Sri Lanka. We vehemently reiterate that the New Delhi leaders are the forces instigating Tamil Nadu leaders to protest against Sri Lanka. We stress that this is the reality of the situation must clearly and carefully be understood by the President and the government. It is the imperative responsibility of the president and the government to clearly distinguish the innocent civilians in their military operations against separatist terrorists, and safeguard their lives. There should be no room for error, such as encountered in the past which made foreign intervention imminent.”
