(October 24, Chennai, Sri Lanak Guardian) The Tamilnadu Congress today demanded the arrest of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol Thirumavalavan and film directors Bharathirajaa, Seeman and Ameer for their ‘pro-LTTE’ remarks.
Speaking to reporters, Vellore MLA and senior Congress leader C Gnanasekaran wanted to know how directors Bharathirajaa and Ramanarayanan could meet Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, after making such inflammatory and anti-national speeches at a recent rally in Rameswaram.
‘They (the directors) had hailed LTTE chief Prabhakaran as a hero and raise their voice in support of a separate Tamil nation. This is a crime under National Security Act. But they have not been arrested so far and were even allowed to meet the Chief Minister,’ he said.
Stating that he had urged for the arrest of Vaiko one-and-half years ago for his pro-LTTE remarks, Gnanasekaran alleged Karunanidhi did not take any step towards that, which had now led to an inflammatory address by Vaiko at a meeting.
‘Even PMK leader S Ramadoss has described LTTE men as rebels. Thirumavalvan, who spoke in support of the Tigers was not arrested so far. Directors Bharathirajaa, Cheran, Ameer and Ramanarayanan were not put behind bars. However, the government has arrested Vaiko and another MDMK leader Kannappan. What is the reason behind this,’ the Congress leader asked.
He urged the Tamilnadu government to immediately arrest all those involved in anti-national activities.
Rajiv statue damaged
A statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was found damaged at Kodungaiyur, a suburb of Chennai this morning.
Following this, activists of the Congress party gathered in large number in front of the statue and stage a road-roko, demanding action against miscreants who damaged the statue.
Traffic came to a standstill on the busy Manali road due to the protest which lasted for more than two hours. A large number of police personnel were deployed to keep things under control. - Sri Lanka Guardian
