' Now, only Judiciary is solving people’s woes'

Madduma Range Bandara addressing the media yesterday (4Sep) asked, what is the purpose of a Govt. which cannot solve people’s urgent grievances and waits for Court instructions? This is a Govt. which was heedless, only started acting after the parents went to the Courts for School admissions; then, the Govt. teachers’ salary anomaly issue too went to Courts. Strikers demanding relief also end up in Courts to get redress.

When its Minister allegedly goes on a spate of assault and attacks on law abiding citizens, neither the police, Govt. or President lifted a finger to resolve the crisis, only after the complainants went for litigation, action was taken by the Govt. It is an Island wide known fact that when the UNP er Dr. John Pulle’s house and vehicles were set on fire and he was assaulted recently, in Anuradhapura, the Policemen including senior DIGs who were present right on the scene turned a blind eye. This is just one of the many incidents occurring across the entire country, he exhorted.

The Police officers are stooping so low that they have forgotten the oath and conditions of their employment. This is because the President himself is violating the solemn oath he took when he was installed in office. Under the constitution, not only one who commits terrorist acts is a terrorist, even the one who does not abide by the constitution after swearing under oath is a terrorist, the President can also be guilty therefore, he expounded.
