"Govt. is so desperate and confused that it is on a witch hunt against honest politicians"

(September 09, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Mano Ganeshan , Leader of Western people’s Front (WPF) , addressing a media conference today , (9Sep) related the ordeal he was subjected to by this Govt .by summoning him to the Terrorist investigation Dept. (TID).

The sole aim of this Govt. is to persecute and intimidate law abiding citizens of the country just because they are in the opposition and obstructing Govt.‘s insidious machinations and anti national acts. His harassment was such a case in point, he added.

While the Govt. takes no action against lawless elements who are engaged in the worst atrocities and criminal acts because they are its Ministers and stooges, it is only on a witch hunt against those who are respecting the law and following the Democratic tenets, he exhorted.

Giving details, he said on the 26th of August, he was summoned by the TID where he was questioned on his visits to Kilinochchi during the period 2002 to 2005. It is no secret that he visited Kilinochchi and did have talks with Prabakaran during the ceasefire term. The meeting was at the behest of Chandrika Bandaranaike when she was the President. At the meeting MPs Chandrasekeran and Thondaman were also present. A report thereof was also handed over to her. Indeed, it is late Jeyaraj Fernandopulle and Basil Rajapakse of this Govt. who wished that he established for them a link with the LTTE which he refused. Besides, he has always refused to participate in any activity which would assist the terrorists or contribute towards a division of the country this is a well and widely known fact of which the Govt. is also aware, he added.

Therefore, the Govt.’s action of summoning him to the TID is a malicious effort to vilify him and tarnish his name, enlisting also the support of the State media to disgrace him, he pinpointed.

The Govt. is so desperate and vindictive that it is even tapping my telephone calls including the recent conversation with former President Chandrika , he concluded.
