His Excellency Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi
22 September 2008
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan
Islamabad
Your Excellency,

I have learnt with deep shock and profound sadness, news of the terrible carnage caused by the suicide truck bomb attack on the Marriot Hotel in Islamabad last Saturday night.
We unreservedly and most vehemently condemn this terrorist outrage, in which dozens of innocent civilians lost their lives, and several others seriously injured. This attack demonstrates quite unambiguously the evil intent of the terrorists to cause maximum death and destruction, and their callous disregard for human life.
The latest atrocity in Pakistan behoves all fellow SAARC member states to close ranks and collectively fight the menace of the terrorism. We strongly support all measures taken by the Government of Pakistan to combat this evil scourge.
Our hearts go out to all the families who lost their loved ones in this terrible tragedy, as well as to those who sustained injuries and wish them speedy recovery.

Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Rohitha Bogollagama
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
