The explosion occured inside a CTB bus bound from Moratuwa to Mattakkuliya (Route 155). An alert passenger who noticed the suspicious parcel had notified the conductor. There were no people inside the bus when the bomb went off.
Manjula Udayanga (28), the conductor of the bus said that all seats were full and there would have been about 40 passengers in the bus when the bomb was detected. "We were awaiting the arrival of the bomb squad when the explosion went off causing a huge sound", he added. - Sri Lanka Guardian
