Eastern journalist shot and injured

(September 08, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka Guardian) Unknown gunmen on Monday night shot and injured a female journalist and aide of Tamil Makkal Viduthalaip Pulighal (TMVP) at the Kallady Bridge in eastern Batticaloa, official sources said.

They said three shots were fired at Radhika Devakumar, 35 years, who until a few days ago was TMVP’s media secretary, few minutes ago -- after 8 pm. The identity of the attackers was not immediately known but in the past LTTE gunmen are known to have targeted key members of the chief minister’s TMVP political party.
