Doctors warn over killing of colleague




(October 01, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Doctors are warning of an island wide strike if authorities fail to arrest the killer of their colleague at Bandagiriya Central Dispensary in southern Hambantota district. According to source in Hambantota, the doctor shot and killed by Sri Lanka Army member.

Secretary of their association Dr. Bimantha Gunasekara charged the Police have been unable to trace the person responsible.

The lady doctor, W.D.L. Indunil, was found shot dead last night (Sept. 29th). Doctors in Hambantota resorted to union action today to protest the killing.


Meanwhile, the Health Minister has ordered his secretary to immediately furnish an investigation report into the incident.

A ministry statement said a special team is already in the area, adding that discussions have been planned with doctors who are refraining from their duties over the killing.
