A Sri Lanka Democracy Forum Seminar observation
(August 14, Toronto, Sri Lanka Guardian) An evening session of discussions commemorating the life of Ketheeshwaran and his contributions to the community was convened by the Sri Lanka Democracy Forum Saturday August 9, 2008 at the OISE auditorium of the University of Toronto at St George, Toronto.
It was presided over by Mr Namu Ponnambalam and introductory addresses were made by Mr Ahilan Kadirgamar of the Human Rights Watch, Mrs Nirmala Ragavan and Mr Kevin Shimmins. The speakers stressed the need for an approach to the solution of the ethnic crisis away from Sinhala-Buddhist and Tamil nationalist extremism.
Unless we converge towards the goal of a peaceful resolution, rampant destruction will continue towards disastrous consequences if not already was the main idea that emerged from the discussions. The country was not left with any other option but a peaceful resolution now. - Sri Lanka Guardian
