TMVP appoints new regional leaders
(August 09, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka Guardian) The leader of the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Puligal (TMVP), Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Col. Karuna Amman visited Batticaloa this morning, August 9 and conferred with senior party officials for over four hours.
Among those present were the Chief Minister of the East Province, Shivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan and the newly appointed Mayor to Batticaloa. TMVP stalwart S. Padmini also attended the meeting. The four-hour session, contrary to expectations is believed to have been rather long and the speculations are that many contentious issues were discussed in the intimate privacy of the sessions.
The party leader Karuna Amman, however, made the announcement that TMVP should be restructured as a political party immediately. This may possibly be a hint to the LTTE to follow likewise without any delay.
During the sessions, new district organizers and secretaries were appointed by Col. Karuna Amman and he also outlined the future role of TMVP. Chief Minister Pillayan was appointed National secretary and S Padmini, a leading party stalwart, appointed as the organizer in Batticaloa. Marnken, Iniyabharathi and Mangalan master were appointed organizers of Trincomalee, Amparai and Polonnaruwa districts respectively.
One could observe from this meeting in Batticaloa, the statement made by Karuna Amman and the respective appointments that he wants to take full control of the TMVP and lead it towards a solution to the ethnic crisis.
