(August 09, Ratnapura, Sri Lanka Guardian) Addressing a meeting yesterday (8Aug), at the Ratnapura District party office , UNP chief Ministerial candidate for Sabaragamuwa province ,Ranjan Ramanayake (One Shot) said the Govt. which is so sure of defeat is making desperate attempts at using violence, State terror and corrupt practices to win the elections.
John Amaratunge , UNP M.P. speaking on the occasion related how OICs of three police stations in Ratnapura area had demanded the subordinate officers to show the marked ballot papers before voting when the postal voting commenced yesterday. A complaint has been lodged in this regard, he added.
Several UNP offices and candidates have come under attack in the past two days by goons of UPFA candidates. These actions are not going to deter or daunt UNP supporters who are rallying round the party in their thousands , said Ramanayake. Not even ten people attended a UPFA rally addressed by a Minister representing the District in support of her husband , he asserted. - Sri Lanka Guardian
