(August 22, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Gampaha District UNP Parliamentarian Dr.Jayalath Jayawardena has asked Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa why he was ordered to leave the Madhu Church premises on August 14.
In a letter dated August 21 to the Defence Secretary Dr Jayawardena queried Major General Lalith Daulagalla’s request that he leave the Madhu Church premises on August 14 around 7.30 pm while he was engaged in prayers.
He has stated that when he was engaged in prayers a soldier informed him that the General wanted him to come to the Mission House. There Major General Lalith Daulagalle, Commander Division 61, Mannar had told the MP that he had to leave.
"I could not stay in the Church as the Secretary Ministry of Defence has not given me permission to stay there. He added that I was an Opposition politician and that I should "leave now" and that I cannot stay. I asked him under what provision of law he was asking me to leave. He did not reply. However, I left", Dr. Jayawardena said in his letter
Dr. Jayawardena had told the Defence Secretary that he would be grateful if a response is received within 14 days.
