China set to unveil Olympic Games

(August 08, Beijing, Sri Lanka Guardian) Beijing under a heavy security blanket will unveil the Olympic Games in a opening ceremony dubbed as the mother of all shows shortly.

Leaders from around the World including US President George W Bush ,India's Congress party leader Sonia Gandhi and Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa have arrived there for the start of the games.

The event will take place at the steel-latticed 'Bird's Nest' stadium at the Olympic Village that would showcase the Communist nation's rise as a modern Goliath on the world stage.

As the Olympic spirit soars high in a nation eager to unfold itself in all its manifestations to billions of audience across the globe, it has all been a guessing game on what would be unveiled with the extravaganza not surprisingly remaining a state secret.

But, expectations and anticipations are running high uniformly across the world looking for China to set new benchmarks in organising the Olympics opening ceremony, a highlight of which will be a 50-minute show squeezing 5,000 years of Chinese history.

From a nation that invented gunpowder, a dazzling display of fireworks is expected, as also scores of flying acrobats, hordes of dancing dragons and a cast of thousands of artistes in myriad of colours but be sure to be bombarded with red.

The Olympic opening and closing ceremonies are expected to be the most expensive and lavish ones so far, with media speculating that USD 100 million have been earmarked on the spectacles that surpass the ones held in the widely acclaimed previous edition at Athens in 2004.
