"Anyway it was not long before the Minister and his security thugs, in true ‘Mervyn the Vermin’ style entered the principal’s office and threatened him with dire consequences if the suspension of the brat was not withdrawn. Sadly, the principal, whose spinal structure seems to have been seriously damaged in the face of the threat, withdrew the suspension though the suspension of the others, the sidekicks, stood."

July 02, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian: The Right Royal Rambukwella ruckus is yet another example of how ministers and their brats — the budding thugs — are able to contemptuously thumb their snotty noses at the authorities after breaking the law and committing criminal offences with impunity.
The Bearded Babbler’s son, was according to the written and signed statements of the four co-offenders, the mastermind in the case of break-opening, entering and robbery of files from a teacher’s locked room. The other four identified the Rambukwella brat as the ring leader who conceived and organised the whole operation and personally broke into the locked room to steal the files.
The worthy principal, who unfortunately, by his subsequent actions, proved to be in the Amoeba class, suspended the four who confessed, to a month’s suspension from school sports activities. The proven leader, who on account of his father’s position as Minister and the state media purveyor of ‘facts,’ refused to accept responsibility for what he had done and was suspended for a longer period. Incidentally these ‘punishments’ were hilariously inadequate when the nature of the criminal offence committed is considered.
Anyway it was not long before the Minister and his security thugs, in true ‘Mervyn the Vermin’ style entered the principal’s office and threatened him with dire consequences if the suspension of the brat was not withdrawn. Sadly, the principal, whose spinal structure seems to have been seriously damaged in the face of the threat, withdrew the suspension though the suspension of the others, the sidekicks, stood.
The education minister’s intervention was nothing short of ludicrous. His instructions to the principal was to withdraw the suspension for one sport and allow it to stand in another. Is this how an education minister should view disciplinary action against miscreants? Is it any wonder that the educational set-up in Sri Lanka is in the mess it is now in?
As things stand, with ministerial thuggery reducing the principal of what is regarded as the island’s primary state boys’ school to the status of a wimp, what is the message that goes out to the rest of the students in the school; won’t the principal become a joke; how is he to enforce discipline in future?
It is a sad commentary on how the country is being run on Mafia lines. What are the members of the OBU going to do about this incident? Are the members, too, willing to be cowed into submission or are they going to do what integrity, honesty and fair play demand, and tell the spineless ‘head’ where he gets off?
This principal is more suited to be in charge of a junior girls’ school in a rural hamlet. His removal from his present post is imperative in view of the damage he has done. Can he now hope to maintain any discipline without the aid of the Minister’s security staff?
