LTTE: Losses After Losses

LTTE Dead Numbers Rise to 33
(July 25, Mannar, Sri Lanka Guardian) Consolidating Troops of the 57 Division and Special Forces in the North of Vannakulam after a pitched round of battles late Thursday (24) night have been able to collect thirty-three (33) dead bodies of LTTE cadres as the dusk fell on Friday (25) along with a massive stock of arms and ammunition.

Valiant troops taking a strategic measure after the initial capture of the area, quite close to Mallavi town awaited a retaliatory attack in return since the damage to the enemy was colossal at the first phase. The enemy was later on strategically lured into another mishap as the evening fell. Troops Friday (25) morning started clearing the captured areas taking maximum possible precautionary measures since the area remains infested with LTTE booby traps and explosive devices.

The latest reports received Friday (25) at 6.00 p.m. (local time) confirmed from ground troops further said they had by now collected thirty-three (33) dead bodies of the Tigers including six female terrorists.

Terrorists died in the fight include Pallavan, AMbumani, Selvakannan, Sellappu, Muhi, Illambu, Sudar and Jenathan who were at the commanding level of the Tiger hierarchy in the Mannar sector, belonging to the so-called “Charles Anthony Brigade”. Of them Pallavan and Ambumani were ranked as “Lieutenant Colonel” and “Major” who commanded as Second in Command.

Twenty-three T-56 weapons, one Rocket Propeller Gun (RPG), fourteen radio sets, four RPG rounds, two hand grenades, 1.5 kg of explosives, six T-56 magazines, one 15 m long detonator code, one motor cycle and several explosive items left behind or used by dead Tigers were also found by the troops from the consolidating areas

Meanwhile, SLAF MI-24 helicopter gunships Friday (July 25) have totally neutralized an LTTE mortar launching pad located 3.5km Southwest of Tunukkai in the Mullaittivu district, during close-fire-support missions launched assisting the advancing ground troops.

According to Air Force Spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara, 4 Mi-24 helicopter gunships have engaged in the daunting mission at around 3.45p.m., despite an array of LTTE counter fire.

What a waste of lives and resources, which could have been used to improve lives of Tamil people that are left on the island. The LTTE and their idiots in the so called diaspora are destroying these poor people. It looks like only the government can liberate them now.

Assanal seems to be an expert from law to weapons...but, why does he sound irritated? Another desperate "diaspora" member?

Get real. Open your mind and think what this war is going to bring to the people of Srilanka no matter what religion, language or colour they are. This war isn’t gonna end in my life time and if you believe that it is, then good luck. All that’s going to happen is more INNOCENT citizens of SL are going to die. The Rajapakse's and Prabaharan's won't be affected and they will all live a life of luxury.

People have realized that they don't have a choice but to fight back. That is why they (the majority of Sri Lankans) are supporting to eliminate ("war" if you want to call it) the Sun God of Wanni and this time there is no one to save him. If the war is not going to end, we the citizens of this country will at least manage it!
