(July 26, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) The activities of the UK based Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) which was closed down by the Charity Commission few years ago for its involvement with the Tamil Tigers has now been spearheaded by another TRO-UK. TRO-UK was formed by the very same trustees of the original TRO and it remained dormant for over five years.
The appeal of the TRO-UK for funds reproduced herein confirms that it is taking the same route like the defunct TRO Charity.
In an appeal widely published in the LTTE media, TRO-UK states: ‘Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation in a press release from it's Kilinochchi Head Office says that as a result of artillery shelling and aerial bombardment by the Sri Lanka Army and Air Force 12,504 families (45,338 persons) have been displaced within the Vanni (it consists the districts of Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu and parts of the Mannar and Vavuniya districts) since the end of June. These 45,338 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) join the 107,048 IDPs in the Vanni who have been displaced since the return to war in April 2006. Most of these IDPs have been repeatedly displaced, some up to ten times, since being displaced from the Jaffna District in 1995; many also lost their homes and possessions in the 2004 tsunami’.
The appeal from the TRO-UK comes at the time when its main pro-LTTE sister organisation White Pigeon is maintaining relative silence. White Pigeon is still to publish the full particulars of funds collected for the Tsunami running into millions of UK sterling pounds.
