(July 25, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) The LTTE front British Tamil Forum (BTF) claimed: ‘Over two thousand people, largely Tamils turned up with a relatively short notice outside the British Parliament last night (23 July 2008) between 8 pm and 10pm holding candles to mark respect and as remembrance of over 3,000 Tamils who were slaughtered during Sri Lankan State sponsored riots, 25 years ago’. The claim of BTF has been contested by independent observers who confirmed only about 500 people did attend the campaign.
Photographs published in the BTF website confirmed the estimated number claimed by the independent observers.
In the peak of summer weather, when sun sets down around 23.00 hours the pro-LTTE demonstrators were called to hold candles, but the photographs in the BTF website did not show anyone holding candles and only showed LTTE prepared banners were plentiful for the hardcore LTTE’rs to hold.
The pro-LTTE All Party Parliamentary Group chairman Virendra Sharma MP was there to give his blessings for the event.
It is historical phenomenon that exaggerated numbers are claimed by the LTTE operatives for their events. Even the Pongu Thamil festival held on the 12 July 2008 in London to glorify the dead suicide cadres of the LTTE, it was claimed 40,000 Tamils had attended the event. The police and independent sources confirmed the number around 10,000 people.
A former frontline activist of the LTTE who has taken a back seat from his involvement expressed disappointment that such exaggerated claims are being made by the LTTE fronts. He said he was present at the Pongu Thamil and his estimation was about 8,500 people. He further said ‘there is no way Roehamton grounds could accommodate 40,000 people’. ‘By simply measuring the grounds one could establish the maximum number which will be way below the claim and it is an absurd claim indeed’ he said.
The LTTE fronts had claimed their standard number of 40,000 for the hero’s day event in London (When actual capacity of the hall is said to be 8,000) two years ago and also for the Black July celebration in 2006 held in the Hyde Park.
Goebles must be resting in peace that someone is carrying his mantle even decades after his death.
Despite actively campaigning to get a higher number of attendances, the BTF could only attract 500 people. The LTTE front Deepam TV wanted the 40,000 people attended the Pongu Thamil event to come for the vigil in front of the parliament. Despite hectic campaign though text messages and telephone calls, the BTF had to settle with the meagre number of 500 people for the event.
A desperate text message received by the writer of this news stated: ‘To mark respect and in remembrance of over 3,000 Tamils who were killed as part of Sri Lankan State sponsored riots, 25 years ago in 1983, a Candle Light Vigil has been organised by the British Tamil Forum and the Tamil Councillors Association on Wednesday, 23 July at the Parliament Square between 8pm and 10pm. A truely desperate lot!
The problem with us Tamil people, well some of them, is that we think all our problems are caused by Sinhalas. Many other minorities suffer from this foolish mentality. After all us Tamils can live anywhere but it is those Sinhalas who cannot. Even this TNA MP living in Colombo and talk like this. One must have some appreciation of the place he lives. These are not just doubble-standards, but racist hypoctites- thinking Bramah and doing Kuppa !
Thus this is in reality nothing but 'selfish-determination'
Rama to Ellala, Raja adi raja to madras seapoys, our genocide of islanders runs to many millions. This is why we talk only of 40 years, that too only half the story. GG Ponna was a racist way back in 1915, Chelva 50:50 during 50's, no Sinhala and Muslim in Jaffna, no Sinhala students tolerated in north-eastern univerities, we kill or expell. Do kuppa, think Bramah. Tamil-only eelam = saintly innocence ??
Divide and rule and minority benefits = root problem
Tamils in Lanka, Tamil Nadu and Tamil-only eelam(Sinhal not in latter two)=prob
Tamil expansions begining in small lLanka, then India, Malaysia=Problem
Tamil ideology over Lanka ideology = root problem
400 policemen lhat layed down arms were killed? Sinhalas and Muslims expelled.
Thousands of Sikhs were also killed after Indira Gandi was killed and the govt. took several days to respond, hurricane Katrina saw the most powerful/advance country in the world taking days to respond and prevent death.
Why are these people not into apatheid nazism and baby army ??? !! ! ?
Post independence Bandaranayakes as well as Chelvanayagams have to take responsibility for arousing ‘racial’ tensions to win elections and to then maintain power by mutual collaboration. There are divisions among Tamils which is also very real. You can listen to Piliyan, Karuna, Devananda, Sandagiri, Kadirigama to name a few. It cannot be easily blamed on the non-Tamil neighbors of the country. It has to be blamed on the fascist and fake beliefs and ideologies !
In fairness pro-tiger websites should also have blogger and comment facilities !
Since the graet majority of Tamils live outside of Tamil-only eelam it is infact a tiger-terror demand, above all an anjust and unattainable demand !
If the mono-ethnic dictatorship based on a baby army is to succeed that is surely the begining of the end for the known world !!
Selfish-determination !
