Kalmunai Police Inspector Suicide linked to killing of 3 Sinhalese businessmen shot dead in Kalmunai

(July 12, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka Guardian) The suicide of OIC W.C. Wijetilake in Kalmunai this morning at approximately 05.45 hours is directly linked to the murders of 3 Sinhalese businessman identified as Indika Jayasekara, 22, Wasantha Premakumara, 24, and Asanka Namal, 22 in Kalmunai.

There is credible evidence that OIC W.C.Wijetilake was reprimanded by Kalmunai SSP for not providing adequate protection for the Sinhalese businessman, who were visiting Kalmunai. It is said that under this pressure from the Kalmunai SSP and the stress caused OIC W.C.Wijetilake committed suicide.

It is reliably learnt that the 3 Sinhalese businessmen Indika Jayasekara, 22, Wasantha Premakumara, 24, and Asanka Namal, 22 were shot dead by the Wahhabbist Group, also known as the Jihad Group locally. A local from Kalmunai who refused to be named claimed that “These men were killed because a small group of our local Muslim businessman felt that their trade would be lost because of the Sinhalese businessman who had visited Kalmunai and they did not want to lose out. As a result the Jihad Group was ordered to murder them which resulted in the cold-blooded killings”. - Sri Lanka Guardian
