(June 05, New York, Sri Lanka Guardian) A group of Tamil Americans is searching for a Tamil they can nominate to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The histories of a number of modern nations have included Nobel laureates who have helped to end civil wars and then have become leading citizens of their nations. Jose Ramos-Horta of East Timor, LechWalensa of Poland, and Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela of South Africacome to mind. The Tamil American group hopes to find a Tamil equivalent.
Some of their models did not become famous all over the world until after they had been awarded the Nobel Prize. Two of those models, Jose Ramos-Horta of East Timorand Desmond Tutu of South Africa, were almost unknown outside their home countries before getting the Nobel Prize. Nominees, the group suggests, need not be famous, yet.
The Tamil Nobel Laureate Nomination Committee is asking Tamils, friends, and concerned people anywhere in the world to suggest nominees.
These nominees might be humanitarian workers in the north or east of Sri Lanka, members of charitable organizations or NGOs who have helped people in Sri Lanka during the conflict (or after the tsunami), or religious leaders or human rights advocates. (Martin Luther King, Desmond Tutu, and Mother Theresa were all religious leaders who won Nobel prizes.) Any person who has made significant efforts to help people in Tamil areas of Sri Lankaduring this time of civil war, the group says, could be an appropriate nominee.
The Tamil Nobel Laureate Committee says that they welcome suggestions from non-Tamils and hope that sympathetic friends of Tamils will help them publicize their effort. The group emphasizes that peace in Sri Lankawould give both ethnic groups (Singhalese and Tamils) a better chance to improve their lives in a stable country.

Why not a Sri Lankan Nobel Laureate? I know the article suggests that even Sinhalese can be nominated but what about the Muslims then?
It's time to get real with the Nationality. All are Sri Lankans, not Tamil, this & the other. Wake up you lot!!!
