(June 11, Jaffna, Sri Lanka Guardian) Father Jeyanesan’s runaway Church of the American Ceylon Mission celebrated “on a grand scale” according to their report, the first family Get-Together of the “Colombo Church” May 19, 2008 at the Kolonne Riverside Grand Hotel to which the participants were transported in two coaches and two vans. The theme for the day was “Truth shall make you free” and was focused on sufferings such as abductions, imprisonment, torture and murder, issues that no doubt help to garner lavish overseas funds. Why it was necessary to have a Get-Together in such great style to attempt to discover how truth frees is hard to understand.
In the second picture, the recently ordained priest of the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India, the Rev James Shantakumaran is celebrating Holy Communion in the partially completed church at Ondatjee Madam in Kalawanchikudi in the Eastern Province. Living with uncompromising faith that the Lord will provide, the Rev Shantakumaran and his family are a great example to the local community. During the tsunami disaster he lost his older daughter 21 years old. The church was washed away and most of their belongings were grabbed by the terrible tide.
In such situations one has to redefine how truth frees us and from what and the power potential of faith when we live truthfully and with all humility shunning the profligate and shameless ostentations of power, greed and luxury.
