(June 15, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Sri Lanka Department of Examination recently releasing striking information on General Certificate of Examination (Ordinary Level) states that 50.84% of the total number of applicants have failed the examination.
In addition, it is also reported that 21,069 have failed all subjects out of 275,781 total applicants and 308 schools in Sri Lanka have failed in producing a single student who would be eligible to sit for the G.C.E. Advanced Level examinations.
However, 4,830 students have managed to obtain ‘A’s for all subjects in the same examination.
National examinations in Sri Lanka are highly competitive. Despite having one of the highest literacy rates of South Asia only a small percentage of students will continue through university education. – (From Colombo Page)
