(June 11, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa today levelled serious allegations against the ruling party DMK and Chief Minister Karunanidhi by saying that Tamilnadu had become a haven for terrorists.

In a statement here, the Chief Minister said that under the rule of the minority DMK government, Tamilnadu had become a safe haven for extremists and terrorists.

The State has a Chief Minister who writes glowing tributes to a dead LTTE functionary and was also making allout efforts to safeguard terrorist outfits and their activists.

‘Due to this, extremist and terrorist forces like naxalites, Al- Quaida and LTTE are freely roaming in Tamilnadu’. Under the present circumstances, according to reports, the coastal States including Tamilnadu have become possible routes for terrorists elements to strike against India.

The Union Home Ministry’s higher official had notified the respective governments about this and also asked them to create security arrangements to safeguard the coastal areas.

The matter was so serious that the Centre had formed Group of Ministers to recommend measures to counter the threat from terrorists. They created a system named as Coastal Security Scheme in the year 2005 itself.

The Union government also allocated funds to implement the plan.

Tamilnadu was expected to set up 12 coastal police stations. Centre would provide Rs 400 crore as non - recurring expenditure to buy equipment, vehicles, boats and also for setting up of checking posts.

The State would also be given Rs 151 crore towards recurring expenditure for the operational expenditure.

Other States like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and all Union territories have created the coastal police stations and check- posts. But Tamilnadu is yet to create even a single coastal police station or check post.

The ruling DMK government, Karunanidhi and the top police officials had miserably failed to do their duty of ensuring the safety and security of people of the State from terrorists attack.

The AIADMK leader also pointed out the fact that during her tenure in 1994 itself her government had created coastal security force named Coastal Security Group to help the Navy and as many as 60 check- posts were created.
