(June 30, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Wasantha Samarasinghe, National list parliamentarian of the JVP handed over his resignation paper to the acting secretary general of the parliament to contest North Central Provincial Council election as the chief ministerial candidate of the JVP today(30).
The JVP nominated Mr. Samarasinghe who is also a trade union leader as the chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming election several days ago. He was also a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts which probed malpractices into corruption and frauds at government institutions.
Party’s parliamentary group leader and MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that the resignation letter would be handed over to the Secretary General of Parliament.
Mr. Dissanayake said that the party had not taken a final decision on the nominee to be picked to fill the vacancy created by Mr. Samarasinghe’s resignation.
“We will start our election campaign on July 4. We have already formulated the campaign’s strategy,” he said.
