Jayalalitha, Swamy meet sparks speculation

(June 18, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Though Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy claimed that there was no political significance attached to his meeting with AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa at her Kodanadu Estate Bungalow near here yesterday, political circles are agog with rumours that both had chalked out strategies for the forthcoming Parliamentary elections during their 30-minute meeting.

Sources said that Swamy had discussed with the AIADMK supremo about the CDs of the tapped phone conversations of the DMK Ministers that he is reportedly possessing.

However, speaking to reporters outside the estate gate, Swamy said, ‘There is no political significance attached to the meeting.

It was just a courtesy call’ On whether there was any possibility of AIADMK entering into alliance with BJP in the coming Lok Sabha elections, Swamy said ‘you can ask this to the BJP leaders, when they come to the State.’

He claimed that the UPA would be routed in the next Lok Sabha polls and AIADMK would win the Assembly elections in Tamilnadu.

On increased prices of petroleum products, he said that converting the crude oil into petrol was costing only Rs 22 for the companies ‘but the unnecessary taxes’ imposed were adding to the price escalation.

To a question on Sethusamudram Project, Swamy said it was already in ‘freezer box.’
