
According to the Statement received by the Sri Lanka Guardian , “in Sri Lanka, successive torrential rains since the end of May caused flood damage mainly in North Western Province, Central Province, Southern Province, and Sabaragamuwa Province. According to the official announcement by the Ministry of Disaster Relief Services of Sri Lanka, 11 persons are dead and 173,778 affected, as of June 2.”
“The Government of Japan has decided to extend this emergency assistance for the victims of the disaster from a humanitarian point of view.”
“The decision was announced on June 3 at the summit meeting between Mr. Yasuo Fukuda, Prime Minister of Japan, and Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, in Rome where both leaders have participated in the High-Level Consultations of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).”
