‘Indian Centre has failed to protect fishermen’ –Vaiko

(June 04, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) MDMK general secretary Vaiko has strongly condemned the killing of yet another fisherman by the Lankan Navy during a shoot-out near Kachatheevu.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Vaiko charged the Union government had failed in its duty to protect the Tamil fishermen.

Because of this, they have been repeatedly targeted by the Lankan Navy in recent times.

He pointed out the fact that as per the Kachatheevu agreement, Tamilnadu fishermen have the right to fish in that area.

But the Lankan Navy has been shooting indiscriminately and killing a number of fishermen, he said.

‘These shootings of Tamil fishermen are taking place only because of the failure of Indian Navy to protect our fishermen,’ said Vaiko.
