Four Indian Fishermen Rescued off Delft Island and Repatriated

(June 04, Jaffna, Sri Lanka Guardian) Four Indian fishermen, who had been marooned in their trawler due gone grounded after a breakage in between Queens’s tower and Vellai Church are about 100 metres off the Delft Island, were rescued by the naval troops yesterday, the 03rd June, around 7.00am.

The Indian fishing trawler named “KT SawundaraI” had broached at the reef area of the above location sustaining engine and steering failure with four (04) fishermen of Indian nationality on board. It was observed that the hull of the trawler was partly damaged and partially grounded.

The naval troops immediately responding rescued the fishermen and attended to their needs.

They were thereafter repatriated to Indian authorities but the craft had been abandoned as it is not in a usable condition and that can be salvaged.
