Death toll rise to 15, over 200,000 displaced due to flood

(June 03, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Fifteen persons have been dead and five were disappeared due to prevailing flood situation in the country. Over 214,043 persons of 54,503 families have been displaced, National Coordinator of the Disaster Management Centre Keerthi Ekanayake told the reporters.

He also said that Kalutara district is the most affected area by the flood in which about 16000 families were displaced. In addition, 4948 families from Rathnapura, 8200 families from Colombo, 15331 families from Gampaha district, and 8442 families from Galle were displaced. 442 families and 1100 families were displaced from Kegalle and Matara districts respectively, he added.

He further said that the damage has not yet estimated and swift measures to take affected people into safe places are being taken by authorities. Displaced people are being supplied with necessaries such as drinking water, generators, water tanks, kerosene, water pumps, and other needs by the Disaster Management Centre.
